11. Description of commitment and the implementation strategy

The River Aurajoki Foundation is committed to promoting environmental awareness of elementary and intermediate schoolchildren regarding the prevention of water pollution of the River Aurajoki and the influence it has on the ecological state of the Archipelago Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Tours of the River Aurajoki Information Centre and the surrounding rural riverside will be organised for groups of local schoolchildren. The idea is to take our youth to see the authentic riverside and the sights it offers, and introduce them to the grass-root level activities one can do to improve the water quality.

We believe that the environmental awareness instilled in children is permanent in nature and has a long-term effect on the wellbeing of the Baltic Sea.

The objective of the River Aurajoki Foundation is to create and preserve an ecologically sound, and recreationally and scenically valuable River Aurajoki. This is achieved by supporting and improving the protection and care of the cultural landscape of the river, as well as carrying out research related to the river and actions aimed at improving the water quality.
