PART2: Commitment information

eOil with EcoFlow
Professional service
eOil = Oil spill processing surveillance and management system.
eOil is a waste processing surveillance and management system based on RFID technology, which will aid in following the contained waste's trail from where the accident happened to the collection points, storage facilities and final processing facilities, and to see in which state it is in at all points. This information is essential for authorities, insurance companies and waste handling organisations. The use of the system will save approximately 45 million euros in collection costs if the accident is about 30000 tonnes of oil and also speed up the collection procedures.
Clean and Safe Maritime Activities
The permanent impact is that there is a ready made solution for handling of oil accident and its collection activities. The solution which saves money and speeds up the processing.
Rescue exercise which will be held on 6th of May 2010 in Kotka, Finland.
Financing support as well as the best partners are essential part of the work.

Rescue exercise of eOil EcoFlow took place in Fire and Rescue Department of Kymenlaakso, Kotka, Finland (www.kympe.fi) on 6th of May 2010. The waste bags/barrels were loaded in containers and stamped with RFID tags as well as containers and trucks. Reading of tags was 100% successfull and the monitoring of waste bags/barrels and containers from collection point to final processing was accurate.

Milestones

Rescue exercise
2010 May 6th
Responding to oil spills (= gasoline, lubricants, heavy fuel oil, crude oil) is one of the less known activities of the rescue services. The tools used are peat, sorbents, shovels, booms, boats and excavators. Oil destruction is hard work and time consuming, and takes a lot of know-how and control of logistics. Collectable waste has to be delivered to the processing facility, where it will either be burned or processed until it has been neutralized.
The oil waste is collected mostly in 100 liter sacks 20 kg of waste in each sack.
The information needed regarding these sacks includes e.g.

• What the sack contains
• Where it has been collected
• When it has been collected and when the accident has happened
• How much waste it contains
• Where it is going
• What is its temporary storage facility
• Has it been final processed

The eOil system has been created for waste surveillance and management.
In the rescue exercise we will train how this system with RFID tags will work in real situation.
