Support in the European Parliament to the Baltic Sea Region

Political work to promote the development and well-being of the Baltic Sea and its surrounding region
As full member of the European Parliament Committee on Budgets, as Vice-chairman of the EP Committee on Fisheries, and as Vice-chairman of the EP Baltic Europe Intergroup, I hereby commit to do my utmost to further the development and well-being of the Baltic Sea and its surrounding region.

Through my work in the Committee on Budget, I am able to promote direct EU funding to the benefit of the Baltic Sea. Through my work in the Committee on Fisheries, I am able to promote a sound and sustainable management of maritime resources in the Baltic Sea. Through my work in the Baltic Europe Intergroup I am able to promote closer cooperation between the Baltic Sea states and the use of existing cooperation structures to the fullest.

All focus areas as defined in the EU SBSR
1. To maintain significant, stable funding in the EU budget, without prejudice to funding from other sources, for the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, and to ensure that the funds are used with maximum efficiency.

2. To promote a sound and stable management of maritime resources in the Baltic Sea through the revision of the Common Fisheries Policy, and to ensure that the particular circumstances in the Baltic Sea are not overlooked by a "one-size-fits-all" -approach in the revision.

3. To promote a closer cooperation between the Baltic Sea states and the use of existing cooperation structures in the region.
Continuous work in the European parliament Committee on Budget in order to secure the funding, and continuing good coordination and cooperation with the European Commission to ensure the efficient use of the funds. Continuing work in the EP Committe on Fisheries to achieve a thourough revision of the EU Common Fisheried Policy. Active participation in the work of the Baltic Europe Intergroup to promote close cooperation between all Baltic Sea states.
The whole Baltic Sea Region, as defined in the EU SBSR.
Cooperation between all MEPs from all EU member states in the Baltic Sea Region; cooperation between all political groups in the European Parliament; cooperation with parlamentarians and other authorities from non-EU states in the Baltic Sea Region.

2010 February 25th
1. Ensuring the efficient use of the 20 million euro reserved for the budget line "EU Baltic Sea Strategy" in the Union's budget for 2010 and the successful preservation of a minimum of 20 million euro for the same budget line in the Union's budget for 2011; .
2. Decision by EP on the Commission's Green book on the revision of the Common Fisheries Policy during its March session.
